The Database Abstraction Spectrum
When integrating databases in Node.js applications, developers choose along a spectrum of abstraction:

- Medium abstraction. Programmatic function chains map closely to SQL statements.
- Pros: Type safety, flexible query structures, predictable SQL output.
- Cons: Require writing queries manually, thinner feature sets than full ORMs.
- Raw SQL Drivers (e.g.,
pg,mysql2,sqlite3):- Zero abstraction. You write raw SQL strings directly.
- Pros: Maximum performance, absolute control, accesses advanced database features.
- Cons: No built-in type safety, manual mapping, vulnerable to SQL injection if variables are not parameterized.
